Silica fibers are nowadays cornerstones in several technological implementations from long-distance communication, to sensing applications many scenarios. To further enlarge the functionalities, compactness, and performances of fiber-based devices, one needs reliably integrate small-footprint components such as sensors, light sources, detectors onto single optical fiber substrates. Here, a novel proof concept is presented deterministically optoelectronic chips facet an fiber, implementing electrical contacting between chip itself. The CMOS-compatible procedure based on suitable combination metal deposition, laser machining, micromanipulation, directly applied tip. proposed method validated by transferring, aligning, bonding quantum-well core multimode fiber. successful monolithic device integration shows simultaneously ferrule, 20% in-coupling These results pave new ways develop next generation systems approach will set relevant milestone along lab-on-fiber roadmap, opening avenues for class integrated platforms, featuring unrivaled miniaturization, levels, designed specific applications.
